SUMMER ISN'T OVER ON LABOR DAY!
THE CAMILLE AUBRAY SUMMER COCKTAIL

THE CAMILLE AUBRAY SUMMER COCKTAIL

I want to remind everybody that summer isn't officially over until September 22nd this year. So why does everybody say that summer ends weeks before it actually does?

Labor Day was just supposed to be a guaranteed summer holiday for working people, but instead it turned into a last gasp and a strong message to go “Back To School, Back to Work”. Just imagine how different life would be if that kind of Labor Day was at the end of September, instead of the beginning!

So I say, don't let anybody rob you of the last, and often the most beautiful weeks of summer. You get cool breezes but you still get the fabulous warm sun. True, the daylight hours are fewer, but that's just one more reason to stay outside and soak up as much of it as you can get!

So whenever you get a chance, go lie in a hammock, take a hike or a bike ride or a swim, or just sit in a nice chair in a sunny spot where you get good air and a pleasant view.

Another way to extend your summer pleasures is to cook meals that remind you of your best vacation experiences.

I have invented a special summer cocktail that to me combines the great tastes of summer. The recipe is here: http://www.camilleaubray.com/recipes-1/2021/9/7/the-camille-aubray-summer-cocktail.

And finally, as I promised, here are some comments sent to me from readers about my previous blog, "What’s the Best Meal You Ever Had On Vacation?":

"I was in a four-star hotel and the menu had great offerings, which I sampled during my stay, but the one I remember most was a perfect club sandwich--with slices of roasted chicken, bacon, hard-boiled egg and tomato and lettuce, and Russian dressing. Sometimes simple is best!" --Carol B.

"The best meal I had on vacation was oven-roasted turbot with herbs in Italy. The fish is flakey and firm, and they served it with black olives and tiny green zucchini. And a cold soave wine!"--J.H.R.

"I ate a pizza capricciosa in Florence, Italy. It had ham, tomato, little mushrooms, olives, and tender artichoke. Fantastic!"--Angela G.

"My best memory is a cottage pie in a pub in London. Loved those whipped potatoes with ground meat, carrots and peas and gravy!"--Nora J.

"I love travel and food! One of my most memorable meals was at Flora Farms just outside San Jose del Cabo. The delicious farm fresh food and beautiful setting are the perfect combination for an incredible evening. Be sure to make reservations well in advance!"--Mitzi K.

"Well, this wasn't a vacation--it was an Italian restaurant in Grand Central Station in New York City that made the best lasagne I every had, and my wife used to order it ahead so I could rush in there, pick it up, and bring it home to share with her over a bottle of Chianti!" --Arthur M.
